A few days in Menorca

A few days in Menorca

If you’ve ever needed to escape somewhere sunny for a while, Menorca is just the spot. The quieter, more low-key neighbour to other nearby Balearic Islands like Mallorca and Ibiza. Warm all year round, Menorca makes the perfect off-season getaway for those looking to unwind and which is exactly what this spontaneous trip offered!

Where to stay

Cala Gardana is a great base if you’re looking to explore Menorca on foot as well as having good links to Ciutadella de Menorca and the airport if you’re hiring a car too. Artiem Aduax is a modern, adults only hotel in the coastal resort and has access to the beach, a pool, rooftop bars overlooking the bay. The food was pretty average but there are plenty of tapas bars and restaurants in walking distance – exploring the local food scene is always my preference anyway!

What to do

Walk the Cami Di Cavalls path. Exploring this dusty trail, which encircles the whole island, leads you through pine forests and boardwalks to neighbouring coves. Each morning I’d grab a nectarine from the local market, throw my beach towel in a bag and set off with no plan. The viewpoints along the way are well worth the detour off the path and soaking in views of the bluest sea I’ve ever seen never got old. Of these secluded coves, Cala Macarella was by far my favourite and has a small cafe where you can pick up cold drinks and ice-creams too. Macarelleta is also well worth a visit for it’s sandy beach and pristine swimming water and Cala en Turqueta boasts stunning white sands but, personally, I found it to be small and overcrowded preferring the quieter two coves on this stretch of coastline.

Ciutadella de Menorca is the former capital of Menorca and a historic hub home to restaurants, markets and the scenic harbour. I loved wandering through the streets and enjoying a glass (or jug as it’s served!) of sangria. There was also a lot of street art which I loved spotting.

If you’re looking for a laid back trip with friends, a romantic short break or even a solo trip to unwind Menorca is the perfect destination.
