Like most people, I’ve been seeking out snippets of normality lately. Little things that were once taken for granted, like catching up with friends over coffee, dinner with family and getting out to explore places away from home, have become big occasions. I took a trip into London last week to wander Kew Gardens with a friend and it felt a bit like being on holiday.
In the late August sunshine, you could tell we were on the edge of seasons and, dare I say it, things were starting to feel a bit autumnal. One of the special things about Kew is just how much there is to see, you can easily spend a day wandering without purpose (or sticking closely to the map if that’s your scene) and still not see everything. Luckily, Andrada was an excellent tour guide and took us to all the highlights. From the Palm House (which is now open, don’t forget your mask) to the hidden lakes and beautiful landscaped border gardens beyond.
If you’re looking for a London day out away from the city, Kew is perfect. The ticketing system means that capacity is managed and there’s plenty of space to get away from it all (and other people!). You can easily spend a whole day here, walking, picnicking and snapping away without worrying about crowds. I’ll definitely be back as the leaves turn to see the gardens in a whole different light come autumn.
