London Loves: Richmond Park

London Loves: Richmond Park

It’s been a while since I wrote one of these little love letters to London, I’d like to explore more of the city that’s on my doorstep this year as well and make the most of weekends for other UK day trips. A walk in Richmond is the perfect antidote to a busy week. I’ve been a few times, at different times of year, but my favourite time to visit is autumn when the leaves are turning.

This has to be one of the best London days out because the moment you step off the train you feel like you’re out of the city and in the countryside. For the perfect slow Saturday, wander along the riverside and watch the boats, pick up a coffee and pastry from one of the bakeries or grab a fresh bacon sandwich from Eileen’s at Buccleuch Gardens before starting your walk. Once you get inside the park there are miles of trails, it’s easy to wander for hours just enjoy being in nature. Depending on where you are in the park, and the season, you’re likely to spot some wild deer. They tend to gather more on the north side of the park, close to Duchess’ Woods but can be found throughout the park. Finish your day with a slice of cake and a hot chocolate at Pembroke Lodge, which has stunning views across the park from the hill.

Where are your favourite spots in London to spend the weekend? Let me know in the comments.
