The weather has turned and so soon will the leaves. One of my favourite things to do in autumn is to get out for a long walk, take my camera and document the turn of the season. Box Hill in Surrey is just an hour outside of London, so perfect for a day out of the city.
Part of the North Downs, there are stunning panoramic views across the countryside from the top the hill. There’s two National Trust car parks, one at the top near the cafe which is popular with cyclists and walkers, and one at the bottom which gives you the chance to cross the river stepping stones and climb up the hill.
There are miles of marked paths in the area and you can find National Trust walks to follow online. We made our way up to the top, ate our picnic and enjoyed the view and the sun before heading on to follow Juniper Top circular walk – a 4 mile loop which takes you into the forest, valley and offers more stretching views of the countryside. Two deer crossed our path during the walk (chased out by a dog!) so keep your eyes peeled for wildlife too.
This was a rare perfectly crisp cold but sunny autumn day and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it.
