The Best Food Markets in London

The Best Food Markets in London

My favourite weekends are spent trawling London’s street food markets with friends, struggling to pick from all of the options and catching up as we tuck in. If you’re looking for a new lunch spot, these are some of the best markets in London.

Old Spitalfields

If you fancy a browse of independent clothing, interior and art stalls while deciding what to eat, Spitalfields is great for a wander. My favourite spots to eat include Fen Noodles, Dumpling Shack for delicious, but dangerously hot, soup dumplings and Crosstown for their incredible donuts.

Maltby Street

Tucked down an unassuming side street, Maltby Street market is a riot of colour, smells and flavours. With everything from Argentinian empanadas to Vietnamese bahn mi on offer, this bustling market is a great stop if you’re heading to London Bridge or taking on the Bermondsey Beer Mile. Don’t miss Comptoir for pastries and coffee afterwards (I’m a strong believer in the desert stomach!).

Borough Market

Probably London’s most famous food market, Borough is also one of the busiest. That’s not to say there aren’t hidden, and not so hidden, gems to be found though with food from across the globe available to try. Between grocers and buchers, there’s salt beef bagels, falafel wraps and gyros to tuck into. The variety of fresh produce on display is a photographers dream too.

Southbank

Back from a long winter break, you can once again find street food stalls lining the Southbank. I’m yet to try it but I’ve been told the polish deli isn’t to be missed and, against the backdrop of the London Eye, it’s possibly the most scenic spot you’ll find for lunch.
