Postcards From Cornwall: A Pocket Guide To The North Coast

North verses south Cornwall is debated as widely as whether or not jam or cream goes on your scone first (jam first if you’re doing it the Cornish way). The north offers rugged cliffs and wilder weather, while the south is more tranquil with blue seas reminiscent of the Mediterranean. If you’ve seen my guide on where to go in Cornwall, you’ll know there’s plenty to do but for shorter stays there’s still ways to get the best of both. Here’s how.

Portreath made the perfect holiday base, somewhere we’ve visited for years for family holidays, as it’s within walking distance of Porthtowan Beach and with easy access to plenty of the sights. If you’re not driving, or prefer more of a seaside town buzz, St Ives or Newquay are also great options. With half an hour drive to spots like St Michael’s Mount and Praa Sands, plenty of walks on the South West Coast path to pick up, and the rocky headlands of Godrevy point where you can go seal spotting, it’s pretty unbeatable for a UK holiday destination.
