Small Joys: Finding Happiness Every Day

Small Joys: Finding Happiness Every Day

Inspired by a few posts I’ve seen recently, like Liv Purvis’ Reasons To Be Cheerful and Yossy’s solo daytrip, I thought I’d share my new-found appreciation for the smaller, everyday joys. Whether it’s getting up early and going for a walk before starting the day, cooking favourite meals from scratch with music on or long-awaited hugs from friends, there are little snippets of happiness to be found everywhere.

Better weather

It’s our favourite topic of conversation in the UK, isn’t it? How much difference a bit of sun makes, especially when it brings more chances to eat alfresco, picnic with pals and enjoy lazy summer days. I’ve made myself book time off, even when I don’t have much planned, and definitely recommend doing this. It’s so easy to think you should ‘save’ time off for holidays or events but we all need a break.

Being back together

Seeing everyone that I love again has made my heart so full. It’s amazing how it feels like no time at all has passed, in some ways I think my relationships were really strengthened over the last year through finding ways to keep in touch and making much more of an effort to check in on each other. I’m so grateful to have people in my life that I can just pick up where we left off and get back to sharing laughs, dinners and adventures in my favourite places.

A full diary

It feels good to plan ahead again and have a diary that’s filled with things to look forward to. Even the simple things feel like big events. The possibility of day trips and weekends away somewhere different from home comes with an extra helping of gratitude having not been able to do that for so long. I want to say yes to as much as possible and make this summer one that’s full of memories.

I guess what I’m trying to do is remind myself of the goodness in the everyday. A few more of the smallest joys we can all take stock of:

  • Getting up early
  • Taking yourself on a date. I loved Michelle’s post about this!
  • Iced coffee on a hot day
  • Longer lighter evenings and sunset walks
