My Favourite Podcasts To Listen To While Running

Forest path

I’ve written about why I love running before and it’s something that I’ve really got back into through a year of lockdowns. A more recent discovery is how great plugging into a podcast is too, whether it’s for background chatter while working from home, a bit of company on a walk, or to switch off on a long run.

I’ve always thought the key to a good run was an upbeat playlist but actually I’ve found having a podcast on is the ultimate distraction. Instead of thinking about how far I’ve gone, or how far I’ve still got to go, I can tune in to the conversations I’m listening to and relax into a steady pace. I love a whole mix of podcasts but these are some of my favourites for running.

Prose Before Hoes by Camilla Ackley and Elle Ayres

A podcast about books, pop culture and drinks aka some of my favourite things. If I’m looking for new book rec’s this is now my go-to, both hosts have great taste and share ‘what they’re drinking, thinking and reading’. Their dynamic is great and the balance between serious book chat and general banter is spot on.

Sorry, Love You, Bye! by Darya (TinyMoron)

TinyMoron is an Instagram page run by Darya where she posts ever-relatable doodles and thoughts about dating, relationships and single life. A self-proclaimed ‘chronically single babe’ her new podcast talks through the dating dilemmas submitted by her Instagram followers along with a guest. From deep q’s to ‘Is bad music taste a turn-off?’ it’s such a funny listen, whether you’re swiping on apps or not remotely interested in dating, and feels like listening to a chat between friends.

The Isolation Tapes by Elis James and John Robins

Throughout lockdown John and Elis have been recording their thoughts, feelings and methods of distraction. I first found them through their sister podcast How Do You Cope which I also love but as it deals with celebrities biggest struggles is a bit heavy for runs where I want something entertaining and easy to listen to. The Isolation Tapes actually me laugh out loud (a great look when I’m running alone) as it’s pure nonsense. Their BBC Radio Five Live show has also genuinely got me through the last few months, so lots of love for John and Elis.

The Fringe Of It by Liv Purvis and Charlotte Jacklin

With episodes that are an hour or more, this is definitely one for long runs. I tend to start listening when I set out and if I’ve not finished I’ll leave it playing as I get ready which makes for the best start to the day. Packed full of recommendations for things to read, watch, listen to and wear these two take on millennial life in a way that feels like you’re sitting down with pals for a chat.
