Short Escapes: Back to Norfolk

Short Escapes: Back to Norfolk

There’s something very comforting about knowing that beautiful golden beaches are just a couple of hours away from London. I first explored north Norfolk exactly a year before this trip and it was so nice to spend a scorching bank holiday weekend revisiting some of the places we’d been to previously and taking the time to discover new ones.

Our first stop was Holkham beach, a vast stretch of powdery white sand and rolling dunes (which are great for, ahem, rolling down if you’re twenty-three going on twelve). On a bank holiday weekend, the beach was pretty busy even though we had hit the seaside by ten am but, with our picnic in tow, we trekked further along the beach to escape the crowds.

For fish ‘n’ chips on the seafront and all the penny arcades you can dream of, Hunstanton is a must. We spent a couple of hours exploring the rockpools, skimming stones and watching a dreamy sunset before heading back to our shepherds hut lodgings. The hut itself was everything you could want for a short weekend away.

After a last dip in the sea at Brancaster beach, it was time to head home. Although we still left time to stop off and explore the grounds of Holkham Hall and ended up spotting a whole herd of deer in the forest which was pretty special.
